Today (January 4, 2025), the Facebook page NARIT National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) posted a message stating that today is the day the Earth is closest to the Sun in the year, with a distance of approximately 147 million kilometers. The Earth revolves around the Sun in an ellipse and the Sun is not exactly at the center of the ellipse. Therefore, there are two places where the Earth will be closest to the Sun and furthest from it in a year. The closest point is called Perihelion and the furthest point is called Aphelion.
